My Petals
Jan 21, 2021
Where did the petals fly?
Did they fly behind the sunrise?
While I was asleep?
Away, closed eyes, on my own?
Nothing was going to change
While I riddled away with my temple
Among their garden
My eyes hurt, I couldn’t.
Afraid I was,
Thinking that what could happen would.
And it did. And so I went.
Chasing cars, stumbling upon the lovers,
Singing to call them, shivering through the husky snow,
Falling over sticks and stones,
Asking all of you, did they pass by?
I am so lost.
Adorning how I have grown
Plucking those petals
From their ephemeral refuge
Come back, o, come back
I can’t sleep anymore.
